Therapy in Hoboken, NJ
You’re looking for something different, open to something new
Individual therapy and couples counseling for people in Hoboken, Jersey City, and the NYC metro area who are ready to look inward — with curiosity, with compassion, and toward change.
You found this page for a reason. Maybe something has been heavy for a while. Maybe you’re ready — or almost ready — to do something about it. Maybe you’re curious about therapy but not sure what it looks like, or what it might ask of you.
Whatever brought you here, you are welcome.
All Are Welcome
I’m Andrew Anderson, a licensed therapist based in Hoboken. I have been delivering therapy for over five years, and before I was a counselor, I was a teacher for ten. What sticks with me from throughout all my career is how much people can change: even when it feels impossible or far-off, people are truly and powerfully capable of doing things differently. That’s what I try to offer here.
My approach to therapy is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), which are experiential models of therapy. That means we’re not just talking about your problems — we’re getting curious about the different complexities inside of you that show up within those problems. With deepened understanding, we are actively helping you learn to practice living a more self-led life, fuller of choice and freedom even when life’s problems next arise.
I love my work, and am effective in delivering it. If you’re looking for a therapist in Hoboken who is present, and happy to share and eager to help you share, I’d love to talk with you.
How I Work
IFS and IFIO aren’t about fixing what’s “wrong” with you. They’re built on the idea that every part of you — even the parts that frustrate you most — developed for a reason, usually to protect you. Therapy, in this model, is less about willpower and more about building relationship with yourself and with others: helping the different parts of you (and, in couples work, the different parts of each of you) learn how to hear one another, and live and thrive with one another.
Who I Work With
I work with individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, and the quieter kind of disconnection that doesn’t always have a name yet — and with couples who want to fight less and understand each other more. Whether you’re coming in alone or with a partner, the work starts the same way: slowing down enough to notice what’s actually happening underneath the surface when the surface is feeling really weighty or hard. We’ll make a plan together to help all that we find there.

You may be here because:
–
You’re getting into the same fights over and over again (sometimes these fights are with other people, and sometimes these fights are with yourself)
–
You feel like you could be doing more with your life (on top of what you already enjoy, and on top of what you want to do less of)
–
When you want to do something for yourself, often the fears hold you back (and sometimes regrets come in right after)
–
You don’t think highly of yourself, or you treat yourself harshly (maybe in a way that’s familiar to you, or like how others have treated you)
–
You want to learn more about yourself, or learn more to move through life differently (in ways that feel better and healthier)
You may be here because:
–
You’re lonely and want to connect more (but maybe your current social skills aren’t creating a sense of closeness for you and the people you care about)
–
Other people make it seem easy, but you don’t have it figured out, and you want to learn how
–
You want to be wanted (in groups, on one-on-ones, with smiles from the people we pass on the street)
–
You try to explain yourself but you feel like people don’t get you (no matter how hard you try)

What we do together in therapy in Hoboken, NJ.
I specialize in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy for individuals and Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO) therapy for couples — two deeply experiential, evidence-based approaches that go beyond just talking about your struggles. This work invites you to actually experience what’s happening inside you, and between you and the people you love, in ways that can feel genuinely new.
This isn’t therapy where you sit and report on your week. This is therapy where something actually shifts.
Who you are in therapy in Hoboken, NJ.
I see adult individuals and couples navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, life transitions, grief, self-worth, and the quiet weight of things that are hard to name. I work with people who are intellectually engaged and emotionally open — or who want to become so.
You don’t have to have it figured out. You just have to be willing to try; showing up with some version of let’s do this.
Where & how we collaborate.
I offer both in-person and virtual services because I believe both matter. The ease and intimacy of virtual sessions is real. And so is the need some of us have to step away from our spaces, walk through a new door, and be fully present with another person in the same room.
